After years of witnessing the devastating effects of sepsis on patients in his ICU, Dr. Marcio Borges made it his personal mission to change the way clinicians across Iberia and Brazil treat the syndrome. In 2014, with the help of his peers, he united medical societies around a plan, and Codigo Sepsis was born. But having a plan doesn’t solve anything. It has to be put into practice. And that’s where you’ll find Marcio when he’s not at a patient’s bedside — in front of government officials, healthcare leaders, and clinicians of every kind, striving to convince them it’s possible to change.
